Student Loan Cancellation

Student loan cancellation remains one of the pressing issues in the country today. A legal battle has already reached the Supreme Court and they are about to release its decision either to grant the plan of the Biden administration to forgive some $400 million in loans.

In a published article in Washington Examiner, after the Biden administration announced last year that they will forgive $10,000 in student loans for those who are earning less than $125,000 and $20,000 if they were Pell Grant recipients, legal challenges have been filed and it reached the Supreme Court.

Why do Lawmakers suggest to Make Alternative Plans for Student Loan Cancellation?

According to a published article in Ground News, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said that if student loan payment will resume without any relief from the administration, this will be devastating for millions of borrowers in the country. Especially since the administration promised that they will receive help with student loan cancellation.

Khanna said, “Conservatives on the Supreme Court are expected to block President Biden’s relief plan, which would show how out of step they are with the American public. The administration needs to follow my plan and explore every tool to provide immediate relief.”

Furthermore, Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) were also among the Democratic lawmakers who urged the Biden administration to make alternative plans.
