The factory that the Stellantis group has in Vigo has made an investment of 33 million euros to start manufacturing its eK9 electric van models in the autumn, while providing an additional 10,000 hours of training.
The Balaídos factory will start production in autumn of the Peugeot e-Partner, e-Rifter, Citroën ë-Berlingo, ë-Berlingo Van and Opel Combo-e Life and Combo e-Cargo models, which will offer a zero solution emissions from the last months of this year.
Thus, the Franco-Italian-American consortium will continue to be the only group that produces a completely electric model in each of its Spanish factories. The group produces the electric Citroën C4 model in Madrid, while in Zaragoza it is in charge of the production of the electric Opel Corsa, while the Vigo factory is also in charge of the production of the electric Peugeot 2008.
In this way, the group led by Carlos Tavares will produce up to nine fully electric models in Spain , of which three correspond to passenger cars, while the remaining six are light commercial vehicles.
The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, explained yesterday that “we are facing one of the most competitive and productive factories in the world.” As Feijóo recalled, “the trajectory of the Vigo factory proves a path of competition and crystallizes in the year of the pandemic.
This factory produced eight different models, directly employing 7,400 people and 25,000 families. indirect . therefore, the automotive sector is the one that gives a greater capacity of employment throughout the autonomous community. this is the engine of the Galician automotive. from this factory fulfilling its commitments Carlos Tavares became possible to achieve a turnover of 1,100 million to the component sector that works in the environment of this factory “.
For his part, the director of the Vigo de Stellantis center, Ignacio Bueno, pointed out that the Galician factory “is proud to continue producing light commercial vehicles for Peugeot, Citroën and Opel, extending a know-how and tradition of more than six decades.
In addition to this experience, we contribute our pioneering character in the manufacture of electric vehicles, an activity that we started in 1995, when this technology was not so present and to which we have incorporated the latest technological advances “.
And it is that the Vigo plant began manufacturing the C15, Berlingo and Peugeot Partner 26 years ago. The batteries are assembled in the workshop of the olive factory, with a production potential of 20 batteries per hour. Starting in September, the Galician plant will have a production of 91 electric vehicles per day and in November it will reach its cruising speed, with a daily manufacturing level of 224 units.
