The management of the Illinois Housing Development Authority announced that rental assistance in Chicago will once again begin this first week of July.
Rental Assistance in Chicago
The rental assistance program has been a big help for millions of tenants and landlords during the pandemic. Tenants were able to receive assistance and have the security of not being evicted while the landlords were given an assurance that they will be paid using the funds from the rental assistance.
In a published article in Chicago Tribune, the Illinois Housing Development Authority announced that the rental assistance program application in Chicago will begin this first week of July. The resumption of the program is very timely because thousands of Cook County residents face eviction annually.

Authorities Released a Statement
According to a published article in The Real Deal, the Executive Director of the Chicago Bar Foundation, Bob Glaves, who manages the Early Resolution Program said that he does not believe that the tenants and renters were not forced to leave their homes but due to the halt of funding.
He also added that there is a backlog of around 360 tenants who are waiting for the rental assistance but there could be about 500 this first week of July as the application begins. Glaves also said, “Everybody is going to work as hard as and do everything they can (to minimize evictions). (The Illinois Housing Development Authority) has experience running this … and is starting with a model that has shown to be effective for the rest of the state.”
