A prisoner who failed to escape after stealing a jail vehicle crashed into a utility pole that caused the death of one Indiana deputy and injuries of another deputy based on the report of CBS News.
Orlando Mitchell, 33, an inmate at Criminal Justice Center complex in Indianapolis attempted to escape after he was brought to the hospital.
Part of Mitchell’s escape plan was to assault an Indiana deputy and steal a jail vehicle.
The prisoner’s plan failed because the jail vehicle bumped into a utility pole that caused the death of one Indiana deputy and minor injuries of another deputy.
Mitchell and the two deputies were brought to the hospital where one deputy was declared dead.

The Victims: The two Deputies
The first victim, an Indiana deputy at Marion County Sheriff’s Office who received minor injuries was declared safe already.
John Durm, 61,the second victim and a veteran was the one who died last Monday due to Mitchell’s attempt to escape according to CBS News.
Durm worked at Marion County Sheriff’s Office for 38 years, where his son had just started training as a detention deputy.
Mitchell, the inmate, will be facing a murder case for being liable to the death of one Indiana deputy.
