Infant abduction

The incident occurred on June 27 when Baker allegedly abducted the infant after a car crash. The spelling of the defendant’s first name has varied in different reports, with some sources referring to him as “Jonathon” and others as “Johnathon.”

Records reviewed by Law&Crime indicate that a warrant for “unable to serve” was filed against Baker on July 11 in the Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court. However, details regarding the formal allegations are currently limited, with only the murder charge and basic information about the defendant in the public docket.

According to previous reports, Baker stole a yellow Camaro and fled the crash scene in North Baltimore, heading towards Tiffin. Law enforcement was alerted by an off-duty police officer who followed the vehicle. The baby girl’s well-being was uncertain then, and initial indications were not promising.

The Tiffin Police Department stated in a press release that Baker had expressed homicidal and suicidal intentions, including a statement to the child’s mother claiming that he had killed the baby. Authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Baker accelerated and crashed the Camaro into a residence, causing extensive damage. Fortunately, no one was inside the house at the time.

Emergency responders extracted Baker and the infant from the wreckage and performed CPR before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, the baby girl tragically succumbed to her injuries, while Baker initially remained in critical condition.

Baker is currently receiving medical treatment at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, with the official cause of death for the infant pending release.

Heart-wrenching 911 calls made after Baker’s arrest reveal conversations between the defendant, the child’s mother, and another individual. The emotional pleas of the grieving mother underscore the devastating loss of her daughter.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of the innocent child and seeks justice for the tragic events that unfolded.
