Investigation Report

According to the report released by Law and Crime, a 19-year-old man who lived together with his parents was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment for killing both of his parents. He stabbed both of his parents, used a bowie knife to finish his parents’ life, and axed her mother after noticing that she survived the initial stabbing.

On October 14, 2021, around 2:10 a.m., the Cedar Rapids Police Department received a call reporting a suspicious person at 361 Carnaby Drive NE. When Police arrived at the reported address, they found a man sitting outside the house, his clothes and some body parts were covered with blood and that was Ethan Orton. Orton admitted to killing both of his parents. Ethan quite regretted what he had done, he surely even said that he would give his left arm just to get back his parents alive, but somehow he added that he made peace with it.

According to the investigation, the teen raged about killing both of his parents because his mother sent him an email telling him that after he turns 18 years old, he should plan of being gone. He will be cast out of the house and they are done with him, which resulted in a complete breakdown, testified by Doctor Tracy Thomas, a forensic psychologist.

Ethan will be served a sentence of life imprisonment of 50 years and a chance of parole, according to Sixth Judicial District Judge Ian Thornhill. Orton was sentenced to two life sentences, one for his mother and another for his father, but Judge Thornhill chose to have Ethan serve simultaneously.

In February, Orton pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for killing both of his parents, Misty Scott-Slade and Casey Orton.
