A Father Murders His Daughter

Kevin Van Streefkerk was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, purposeful murder, atrocious murder, and assault on a child under the age of eight leading to death in the death of the 5-week-old, according to court papers seen by Law&Crime.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office stated to the media that the department received a call on June 17 reported about physical abuse against an infant. The department did not specifically determine the location of the authorities to be dispatched, they were only given Streefkerk’s address, where he was living together with her wire and newborn daughter.

According to the sheriff’s office, when they arrived at Streefkerk’s residence, they took the infant right away and admitted her to the nearest hospital. Based on initial findings, the baby is suffering from several wounds and injuries. The following day, the infant died because of her critical condition. On June 18, the infant was declared deceased.

Detectives claimed that as the investigation into the infant’s death progressed, they created sufficient evidence to detain Van Streefkerk for the infant’s murder.

Van Streefkerk, a telecommunications specialist with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, was taken into custody and is presently being held without release at the El Dorado County Jail.

Ferguson’s Statement

California Office of Emergency Services commented about the issue, represented by Brian Ferguson, a spokesperson stating to several other media:

He was shocked and saddened to learn of the circumstances around him.  He ensures that they are closely coordinating with detectives and other agencies for a thorough investigation. He tried to defend the alleged suspect that it was out of his capacity to murder an infant. He emphasized that Streefkerk worked as maintenance of radio equipment since 2016 at the state and did not involve any contact with the public.

Ferguson did issue the following statement to several other media:

In addition, from August 2022 to November 2022, Van Streefkerk worked as the head tennis coach at Mesa Verde High School in Citrus Heights. Van Streefkerk is no longer employed by San Juan Unified School District, according to a statement given to The Sacramento Bee by a district representative.
