This classic children’s book has fascinated readers young and old for decades, and its popularity hasn’t waned over time. The Grinch himself has become an instantly recognizable iconic character worldwide and has been featured in countless movies, TV shows, and even video games.
Moreover, it has become a symbol for people in a bad mood at Christmas, although he eventually learns to appreciate it. Step 1:
In this guide on how to draw the Grinch, we’ll depict him in his classic Santa costume. The first item will be your Santa hat, so let’s start now! To draw this hat, use a curvy, jagged line to create a thin oval that will form the fluffy base of her hat. Next, use a curved line to form the top of the Santa hat. Keep the tip of the hat fairly thin as you draw, then include a small ball at the end of the hat.
Step 2:
You’ve drawn the hat, so we’ll start with the head of your Grinch drawing. First, draw sharp, jagged lines in the bottom corner of the hat. This will show some of his fur sticking out of the hat. Then, draw an inward curved line from these sections of hair with a small gap at the end.
Step 3:
Dr Seuss has a very particular style, especially regarding faces. The Grinch’s face has sharp lines and angles, and his eyes are slanted downward to give him a menacing expression. His nose will be quite small, with a downward parting. Eventually, his mouth will go below this curved line with a sharp point in the middle. Finally, you can draw a section under his neck that looks like the bottom of the hat. This will form a fluffy necklace for the Grinch costume.
Step 4:
The Grinch always seems up to something, so to show it off, we’ll have his arms by his side. Her arms will come straight out of her neck and be drawn with curved, angular lines that end in her hands. Then her belly will be drawn with a downward wavy line to give her a little belly.
Step 5:
We will draw a strap for the Grinch in this stage of our guide on how to remove the Grinch. You’ll use a shape similar to the one you used for the base of his hat and neck to give him the fluffy look of those elements. Once you’ve drawn the belt section, you can add a few lines to the arms and waist to give some creases to her outfit.
Step 6:
We will draw her fluffy hips for the next look of your Grinch drawing. These will be drawn with curved lines coming down from his belt and jagged lines to give a hairy look. Be sure to leave two small gaps near the bottom when we draw the legs in the next step!
Step 7:
Step 7 of our guide to drawing the Grinch will consist of adding the legs before colouring! His legs are quite short compared to the rest of his body, and as you can see in the reference image, they are made up of two sections. You can use curved lines along her hips to create the upper part of her legs.
Then you can draw their big, flat feet below some ankles. With her legs drawn, you’re ready for the next step! However, before proceeding, draw the final details you want. Step 8:
This gets us to the last step of your Grinch picture! Now you can have fun colouring your awesome picture. The Grinch has a distinctive bright green colour scheme with yellow for his eyes and, of course, red for Santa’s costume. If you stick with her normal colour palette, I’ll use acrylic paints or markers to bring out her colours. This is just one way to go, and you can use more subdued colours and mediums for your drawing.
