A 37-year-old father and California Governor’s Office Employee were accused of fatally beating a newborn and facing multiple felony charges.

Kevin Van Streefkerk, a telecommunications technician working for the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, has been arrested and charged with several crimes after allegedly causing the death of his 5-week-old daughter through severe beatings. According to records obtained by Law&Crime, Van Streefkerk is facing first-degree murder, intentional murder, heinous murder, and assault on a child resulting in death.
On June 17, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a report of physical abuse against the infant. Although the specific location was not disclosed, it was revealed that Van Streefkerk lived in Cameron Park with his wife and baby daughter, just over 30 miles east of Sacramento. The baby suffered severe injuries from the abuse and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she died due to her injuries on Father’s Day, June 18.
