Mentally Incompetent Lawyer Prohibited From Standing On Trial

As the Congress certified the electoral win of Joe Biden, a huge group that supports Donald Trump mobbed, overran, and breached the police. This January 6 incident is said to be done through the huge participation of Kellye SoRelle who got arrested in September of the year 2022. According to prosecutors, SoRelle allegedly instructed the riot participants to withhold records, documents, and other objects as well as to alter, conceal, mutilate, and destroy objects with the intention to impair them. She also possesses an obstruction charge, that carries a potential 20-year sentence in prison, for allegedly obstructing an official proceeding.

According to a published article in Law and Crime, the Court then rules out the defendant as mentally incompetent which makes her not understand the nature and consequences of her actions. U.S. district judge Amit Mehta, a Barrack Obama appointee, ordered that the defendant should be hospitalized in order to restore her mental competency in which reports every 60 days should be given until she recovers and be able to proceed with her trial. Recently, Kellye SoRelle has been sharing the status of her mental incompetency on social media.
